Max “Park” Biglow, 95, died peacefully at his home in Malibu on Sept. 1, surrounded by his beloved wife, family and caregivers.
Park was born and raised in Detroit, Mich. After graduating from high school, he volunteered to serve his country as a B-24 aerial gunner and flight engineer in the Army Air Forces during WWII, flying numerous hazardous missions over Axis-held territory. Once discharged from the military, he set his sights on a career in radio and broadcasting. While studying in Kansas City, Mo., he met his first love, Charlene (Moffit) Biglow. He began his career in radio and after a few years moved the family to Los Angeles, where he made the astute switch to television broadcasting. He worked at CBS for 28 years holding various positions as a cameraman, boom operator and videotape engineer/editor.
In yet another astute switch, he relocated from Los Angeles to Malibu in 1964. A lifelong athlete, he enjoyed swimming, surfing, running, skiing and handball, and just about any other sport he came across.
“Park was a family man first, last and always,” a loved one said. Sadly, after raising their five children together, he lost Charlene in 1981.
“Finding himself single again was a daunting task after 34 years of blissful marriage,” a loved one said. “But, always the fortunate man, Park met the second great love of his life, Orpha Brown Biglow. They married in 1991 and enjoyed 27 years of love, laughter and adventures. Orpha not only took on a new husband but became the grandmother to 11 additional grandchildren.”
He is survived by his wife Orpha; his five children Mark, Anne (Bill), Michael (Barbara), Timothy (Laurie) and Kathleen (Garth); their 11 grandchildren; and Orpha’s daughters Deborah (Greg), Susan (George); and their four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Malibu Church on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m.
