Malibu local Greg Louganis to be inducted into hall of fame

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis will be inducted into the California Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony June 9. A Malibu local and California native, Louganis won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games in springboard and platform diving competitions. He began his Olympic career by winning a silver medal at the 1976 summer games, and has also won a number of world championship gold medals.

Aside from professional sports, Louganis also penned a best-selling autobiography and has been featured in films and TV shows. Since retiring from diving, he has spent time as an activist for a variety of causes, including gay rights and animal rights. Louganis has participated in the Swim for Equality event, in support of Equality California, and worked for the Los Angeles nonprofit group Pets Are Wonderful Support, or PAWS.

The other 2013 inductees into the hall of fame are Joe Montana, Florence Griffith Joyner, coach John Robinson, Luc Robitaille and Tony Gwynn.
