Monday marks a momentous occasion for many in Malibu, as Malibu High School’s class of 2013 graduates in a ceremony on the school’s athletic field at 2 p.m.
The ceremony is being held on the field for the first time in the school’s history. Teachers, parents and students wanted to move the ceremony to the athletic field because of the view, the larger seating capacity and a “real high school feel,” according to a statement from the school. Aside from the new location, the rest of the ceremony will remain in line with past traditions and will include musical acts, senior speeches and presentation of diplomas.
Local filmmaker Tom Shadyac is set to give the commencement address. Shadyac is best-known for directing the films “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Liar Liar,” “Bruce Almighty” and the documentary “I Am.”
Seating for the ceremony begins at 1 p.m. and guests are encouraged to get to campus early because parking and chairs will fill fast.
Congratulations to the class of 2013 from The Malibu Times. For information on the graduates and photos of the ceremony, make sure to pick up this week’s issue, which hits newsstands Wednesday.
