Local swimmers qualify for Junior Olympics

Kennan Hotchkiss and Morgan Perlmuter from the Malibu Seawolves Swimming team will compete in the Southern California Junior Olympics Championships Jan. 18-21 in Long Beach. 

Hotchkiss, a sixth-grader at Malibu High School, qualified to compete in five events. He will swim in the 100-meter freestyle, 200- meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley. 

Perlmuter, a fifth-grader at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, will compete in two events. She will swim in the 50-meter backstroke and the 100-meter backstroke. 

The Malibu Seawolves Swimming team, made up of 75 registered swimmers, was formed last fall and has been competing in regional swim tournaments. The team is led by Jon Carroll, the head of Aquatics at Harvard-Westlake School.
