Such a deal. Ten acres of ocean view Bluff’s Park for sale by SMMC for $2.5 million when the city paid 10 times this amount for the 20-acre Chili Cook-Off parcel with deed restrictions that severely limit its use. Now State Parks wants to impose another deed restriction limiting Bluff’s Park use to “a park in perpetuity.” I hope our city council doesn’t cave on this one too. Who knows, sometime in the future we the voters might want to lease this property to the Hilton Hotel chain. After all, we have to think about the next bike tour coming to town. Sure.
Our council members cited several reasons why the city couldn’t meet the tour’s requirements such as a lack of staff, lack of money. How about the main reason: we have no lack of tourists as it is and don’t need more inviting themselves and asking the city to pay their bills for them. Ingrates.
