Letter: Do Your Homework

Letter to the Editor

I saw in the Oct. 27 edition you have decided to endorse Gavin Newsom’s Prop. 63. As the publisher of The Malibu Times, your opinion holds more weight than most. I would hope that you “do your homework” when endorsing proposals on the ballot. After reading your reasoning behind your endorsement, I’m afraid you didn’t on this one. If you had researched Newsom’s Prop. 63, you would have realized that every one of his proposals is already a current law in California recently signed by Governor Brown.

Since Prop. 63 is totally redundant, it will do nothing to protect our communities, will cost tens of millions of dollars, and multiple law enforcement groups have come out against it. There are legitimate concerns that Prop. 63 is nothing more than a publicity stunt for Newsom’s upcoming run for governor, and that contributions earmarked for Prop. 63 are actually going into his campaign war chest.

Prop. 63 is a waste of taxpayer money, is already current law, has been rejected by multiple law enforcement groups and is nothing more than another Gavin Newsom publicity stunt.
