As reported in last week’s Malibu Times, the city maintenance manager, Mr. Richard Calvin, thinks that the Civic Center road closing is “a great project.” Does anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the preponderance of the Malibu residents think? He further states that there have been 209 phone calls and 18 e-mails but he has “not looked at them closely enough to determine the ratio of negative to positive responses.” What arrogance! What disdain for the citizens of this community. This whole fiasco is a stunning example of government run amok.
Let’s get some talented people in or out of City Hall to come up with some equitable solutions to the perceived hazards and congestion. It seems clear to appear to this observer that there are a myriad of options that could be affected in short order. Lower speed limits, right turn only on Winter Canyon Road, widening, re-striping to allow entry eastbound on Civic Center Way, etc. You know, this has the potential of being “a great project.”
