Local Malibu dog Super Smiley was named the new National Spokes-Dog for The 2013 Hero Dog Awards. Super Smiley and owner Megan Blake are to present a posthumous Hero Dog Award to Farrah Fawcett, which will be accepted by her longtime companion, actor Ryan O’Neal.
The Hero Dog Awards are presented to help recognize K9 heroes who save lives and help humans. Last year, three million votes were cast for the hundreds of nominees, and support from the event came from award-winning celebrities including Betty White, Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Fonda. In addition to their work with the awards show, Smiley and Blake are an official spokes-team for an animal advocacy film they acted in, “Susie’s Hope,” which gives a message of hope and stands against animal abuse.
