What’s this “no smoking on the beach” stuff? If our City Council ever ventured out on the sand they would notice a prevailing westerly breeze, which quickly dissipates cigarette smoke, LNG and the like. This ban is just another case of DoGooderism run amok and if the council really is concerned about kids chewing on the butts they better pass a law requiring childproof ashtrays. The only people that use the public beaches are the tourists; locals use our own private beaches. So now to enforce the ban the city council will have to hire the sheriffs to patrol the public beach looking for a suspicious butt while sniffing for a telltale whiff and now, We the Taxpayers, will have to pay to protect the tourists from themselves. The City Council is perpetuating a myth that people go the beach looking for fresh air and relaxation while in fact, most are the touristy under-30 crowd hitting the public beach looking for action.
