Malibu’s Morgan Perlmuter and Gianni Otero received medals for the paddle board relay at the 2017 California Surf Lifesaving Championship at Silver Strand Beach in Coronado, Calif. They were up against a number of fierce competitors, some of whom had international rankings.
The competition, which took place on July 21 and 22, hosted about 300 junior lifeguards who competed in a number of events such as distance run, distance swim, run-swim-run, run relay, swim relay, paddle relay, rescue relay and beach flags. In order to participate, competitors must have currently been a part of a junior lifeguard program associated with the California Surf Lifesaving Association.
