The Malibu Community Jazz Ensemble began its second year on Aug. 30 with 10 returning members. Dr. JB Dyas, vice president of education and curriculum development at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of California at Los Angeles, serves as their conductor-instructor.
The ensemble meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 6:30-9 p.m. at Malibu City Hall Civic Theatre. All are welcome, though participants are expected to be able to read music. Experience in jazz music is a plus.
