A 70-year-old male died upon arrival at the hospital Sunday night after being struck by a car traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway toward Las Flores Canyon Road, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed.
The accident was reported around 6:20 p.m. after a small sedan struck the pedestrian as he crossed the highway.
“The victim was crossing north to south [PCH] and the westbound car struck him in the No. 1 lane,” Traffic Sgt. Brad Johnson with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station said.
The driver, a male described around 40 years old, was not arrested and is said to be cooperating with law enforcement.
The victim was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Lt. Jim Royal of the Malibu/Lost Hills Station said alcohol and speed are not suspected to be factors.
Further information about the victim, including his identity, has not been released.
The accident closed eastbound and westbound lanes in the area for several hours on Sunday night for further investigation and cars were diverted into the median lane.
The investigation remains ongoing.
