We have been away from our Malibu home for several weeks and our mail is being forwarded to us. We have just received our copies of the August 17 issue of The Malibu Times and the August 21 issue of The New Yorker magazine. Each has an editorial addressing the Mideast mess, particularly Iraq, Arnold York in the Times and Hendrik Hertzberg in The New Yorker. Both editorials are cogent, clear and compelling analyses of the current state of affairs. Both hit the bull’s eye, each reaching essentially the same conclusion, The Bush administration’s policies have failed, they are worsening the situation and we must get out. I intend to send copies to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. I harbor the faint hope that it might introduce some light into the dark recesses of their minds.
