Two years ago, local award-winning portrait artist Johanna Spinks began using a palette knife as an artistic tool. She has since used her palette knife to depict people she is close with and who she has become close with during her travels to India, Europe and the High Sierras.

Spinks’ works will be on display throughout the month of April at the Museum of Ventura County’s Tool Room Gallery in her curated show titled “Going Under the Knife.” The show will include a large portrait of 102-year-old Ventura scientist and philanthropist Howard Boroughs, which was recently accepted into the permanent collection of the Museum of Ventura County.

The exhibit’s opening reception will take place on Friday, April 1, at 6 p.m. After the reception, viewing will be available by appointment only.
