Local Malibu filmmakers and co-owners of Planet Grande Pictures John Watkin and Eamon Harrington have been commissioned by the City of Malibu to create a short film commemorating the city’s 25th anniversary of cityhood.
“We thought it would be really cool if we could tell the story of the city from the point of view from everybody who’s lived and worked here,” Watkin said. “So, if we can, and it’s an ambitious goal, we want to get all of the footage supplied from local people.”
Watkin and Harrington are collecting photo submissions, videos and home movies that capture Malibu’s history from a local point a view, from the shores of famed surf culture, to fires and mudslides that have affected the 27 miles of Malibu through the years.
Between city-sponsored events, high school homecomings, weddings, restaurant openings and closings, secret hiking trails or favorite nightlife activities, and the moments that truly brought the community together, all submissions are welcomed at malibu25th@gmail.com.
The short film will cover all aspects of Malibu through the residents and through the years.
“It’ll be a really fantastic trip down memory lane for people,” Watkin said.
The deadline to submit Malibu memories for possible inclusion in the city’s commissioned short film is Feb. 29.
