Former Point Dume resident Jason Pomerance incorporated Malibu into the setting of his debut novel, “Women Like Us,” which will be published on July 26.
The novel tells the story of Susan Jones — a chef who married and had a son in her early 20s. After her marriage fell apart, she left most of her child raising responsibilities to her opinionated ex-mother-in-law, Edith Vale, who owns a cottage at Trancas in addition to her main residence in Pasadena. Jones is determined to make things right with her son after letting him drift away, but just as the two begin to make headway in their relationship, a family crisis occurs. Through the crisis, the family fights to bond and find courage in a situation that threatens to change them forever.
