Yerba Fire briefly prompts evacuation warning near Malibu

A small brush fire late Monday night near Yerba Buena Road prompted a temporary evacuation warning before firefighters stopped its forward progress.

The Yerba Fire was reported at approximately 9:50 p.m. Monday in the area west of Mipolomol Road and Yerba Buena Road near Malibu. The first arriving unit reported the fire at approximately one acre, burning in light brush and initially moving uphill.

The fire later grew to between one and two acres and began moving downhill at a slow rate of spread, with potential impacts to nearby structures and infrastructure. Fire crews positioned resources for possible structure defense.

Incident Command later estimated the fire at approximately two acres with the potential to grow to 10 acres. Firefighters were able to establish hose line around the blaze, and a mutual aid helicopter from Los Angeles County was canceled.

An evacuation warning was issued for the Money Mountain 01 evacuation zone as crews worked to contain the fire.

Firefighters later stopped the fire's forward progress, and the evacuation warning for Money Mountain 01 was lifted. No evacuation areas remained in effect.

No injuries or structure damage were immediately reported.
