Overnight lane closures scheduled on Topanga Canyon Boulevard for pavement work

Motorists traveling through Topanga Canyon overnight on Monday, July 20, should prepare for delays as Caltrans conducts pavement rehabilitation work along Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27).

Beginning as early as 10 p.m. Monday and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Caltrans will implement overnight lane closures on SR-27 from just north of Happy Trail to Pacific Coast Highway. During the work, one lane will remain open, with traffic in both directions sharing the roadway under alternating one-way traffic control directed by flaggers.

The location of the one-way traffic control will shift throughout the night as crews progress with paving operations. Warning signs will be posted in advance of the work zone in both directions to alert motorists.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time or use alternate routes during construction hours. Nearby residents and businesses should also expect temporary construction-related noise, vibrations, and dust while work is underway.

The overnight paving operation is part of Caltrans' larger State Route 27 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, which stretches more than 18 miles from Pacific Coast Highway in Topanga to Devonshire Street in Chatsworth.

The project includes:

• Repaving the roadway.

• Upgrading curb ramps to improve accessibility.

• Installing new pedestrian push buttons.

• Reconstructing bus pads along the corridor.

According to Caltrans, work in the San Fernando Valley portion of the project has already been completed. Construction throughout the entire SR-27 corridor is expected to continue through summer 2027.

The overnight closures are weather permitting and may change based on construction conditions.

Caltrans reminds motorists to drive cautiously through active work zones by following its safety campaign messages: "Be Work Zone Alert" and "Slow for the Cone Zone."
