Oscar-winning composer’s home sells

A sprawling Point Dume estate once owned by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer has sold for just over $28 million. The 1.57-acre property on Zumirez Drive closed Sept. 16 for $28,066,970, according to real estate records. It had been listed for $30 million and had previously been offered for as much as $35 million.

Zimmer and his former wife, Suzanne Zimmer, purchased the property in 1995 from legendary songwriter and composer Burt Bacharach for approximately $2.8 million. Zimmer, whose film scores include “The Lion King,” “Gladiator,” “Interstellar,” and “Dune,” was already an Oscar winner when he moved into the Malibu estate. The farmhouse-style home, designed by architect Peter Choate in 1978, encompasses 5,764 square feet with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms. Perched above the Pacific on one of Point Dume’s most coveted streets, the gated property features ocean views, a swimming pool, orchards, gardens, decks, a fire pit, and a 100-foot driveway lined with mature eucalyptus trees. One of its most unusual amenities is a private door providing access to Little Dume Beach, one of the Malibu’s most coveted stretches of sand. The estate’s Malibu pedigree runs deep. It is next to Barbra Streisand’s longtime property, and Zumirez Drive has historically been home to a collection of high-profile residents.               

Suzanne Zimmer, who raised her children at the property, previously described it as a “magical place,” complete with creeks, ponds, gardens, and fruit trees used to make her Happy the Golden Jam.
