Kanye West’s former Malibu home takes another bizarre turn

The saga continues in the ever-evolving story of Kanye West’s former home on Malibu Road. The beachfront mansion is now being turned into a members-only timeshare accessible only through blockchain-secured ownership stakes.
The property is currently on the market as a timeshare, members-only club called Populis, according to Realtor.com. Populis is a new, private, invite-only real estate investment membership program that allows members to obtain a partial economic interest in architecturally significant properties rather than buying an entire property themselves. The concept is similar to fractional ownership, but Populis is positioning itself around high-end homes. This is the first property to be offered by the company.
The home’s tumultuous history started in 2021 when West, who now goes by “Ye” purchased the Tadao Ando designed modernist masterpiece for $57.3 million. He then completely gutted the 4,000 square-foot property and left the home completely stripped of everything but its concrete shell in a renovation attempt. West then abandoned the project and put the empty home on the market in 2024 for $53 million. He took a huge financial hit on the house when he sold it to Steven “Bo” Belmont of Belwood Investments for $21 million. Belmont tried to restore the house with individual investors contributing, but ran into financial problems, initiating foreclosure. Another deal to sell to another investor eventually fell apart.
Populis memberships reportedly range from $1,000 to $300,000. Top-tier memberships include four stays a year among other perks.
