Extreme Heat Watch and Advisory issued for Malibu through July 27

The City of Malibu is urging residents and visitors to take precautions as an Extreme Heat Watch and Advisory remains in effect through Monday, July 27, with forecasters expecting a prolonged period of high temperatures and increased humidity across the region.
City officials are encouraging everyone to take steps to prevent heat-related illnesses by staying cool, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
"High temperatures and humidity are expected through Monday, July 27," the City of Malibu said in its public advisory, reminding residents that heat can pose serious health risks, particularly for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions and those who work or exercise outdoors.
Health officials recommend:
Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
Limit outdoor work and exercise to the early morning or evening hours.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Check on elderly neighbors, family members and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
Never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
The combination of elevated temperatures and humidity can increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can become life-threatening if not treated promptly. Symptoms of heat-related illness include dizziness, nausea, headache, heavy sweating, rapid pulse and confusion. Anyone experiencing signs of heat stroke should seek emergency medical attention immediately.
The advisory comes as Southern California enters one of its hottest periods of the summer, with inland temperatures expected to climb well into the 90s and low 100s, while coastal communities such as Malibu may experience elevated humidity and warmer-than-normal conditions.
