Art Night for Adults at Malibu Library
Adults are invited to relax, socialize, and unleash their creativity during Art Night for Adults on Thursday, July 30, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Malibu Library. Participants can color reproductions of famous masterpieces, paint on miniature canvases, or create original works inspired by their own imagination. Brick Builders Club at Malibu Library

The library will provide all the building materials, and participants can either create freely or take part in a fun building challenge. The free hands-on program encourages creativity, problem-solving, and imaginative play in a welcoming environment for young builders. Jubilations: Outdoor Poetry Reading
Adults are invited to enjoy an afternoon of poetry, conversation, and community during Jubilations: Outdoor Poetry Reading on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Malibu Library. This open-air gathering features readings by selected poets, an open mic for attendees, and opportunities to connect with fellow poetry enthusiasts. Guests are encouraged to bring sunscreen, a sun hat, and sunglasses for the outdoor event. The free program is open to adults. PaliBu Chamber Connections Breakfast Featuring Malibu City Manager Joe Irvin
The PaliBu Chamber of Commerce invites the community to its August Connections Breakfast on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Ocean Room at Duke's Malibu. Special guest Joe Irvin will provide updates on City initiatives, rebuilding and recovery efforts, economic development, and other issues shaping Malibu's future. Attendees will enjoy breakfast while networking with local business leaders, community members, and civic officials. Advance registration is recommended through the PaliBu Chamber of Commerce.

PDC Art Walk Showcases Local Artists at Point Dume Club
The Point Dume Club Residents' Association will host its 2nd Annual PDC Art Walk on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Point Dume Club. Visitors are invited to stroll through the neighborhood while exploring works by local artists featuring paintings, pottery, textiles, gifts, and more. Malibu Students Return to Class Aug. 20
Summer break comes to an end on Thursday, Aug. 20, as students throughout the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District return to the classroom for the first day of the 2026-27 school year. Malibu Elementary School, Webster Elementary School, Malibu Middle School, and Malibu High School will all welcome students back for the start of a new academic year. Families are encouraged to allow extra travel time on the first day as school traffic returns to local roads and to watch for students walking and biking to campus.

Clear the Shelters Adoption Event at Agoura Animal Care Center
The Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control invites the community to its Clear the Shelters adoption event on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Agoura Animal Care Center. The free event will feature pet meet-and-greets, waived adoption fees for available animals, a food truck, coffee, and complimentary grooming for adopters. Standard licensing and trust fees still apply, and adopted pets will be spayed or neutered and microchipped. A portion of food and beverage proceeds will benefit Healthcare for Homeless Animals. Community members looking to welcome a new pet into their family are encouraged to attend and help local shelter animals find loving homes.

Malibu Chili Cook-Off Returns Labor Day Weekend
The beloved Malibu Chili Cook-Off returns Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7, for four days of family-friendly fun over Labor Day weekend. Hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, this year's event will feature award-winning chili, live entertainment on the new Aviator Nation Dreamland Music Stage, carnival rides, a skate contest, local artists, and appearances by world-class chili judges. Proceeds from the event support the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu's youth programs, mental health services, and long-term community disaster recovery efforts. Tickets must be purchased in advance online, children ages 5 and younger are admitted free, and carnival ride passes are sold separately. Ticket prices increase as each pricing tier sells out. Pepperdine's Waves of Flags Volunteers Needed for Annual 9/11 Memorial
Community members, businesses, and organizations are invited to participate in Pepperdine University's annual Waves of Flags, a powerful tribute honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, nearly 3,000 American flags will once again fill Alumni Park, creating one of Malibu's most meaningful displays of remembrance, service, and national unity. Volunteers are needed to help raise the flags on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and lower them on Friday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Individuals and groups are welcome to participate. Save the Date: PaliBu Recovery Expo Returns
Residents, business owners, and community members are invited to attend the PaliBu Recovery Expo on Sunday, Oct. 11, in Pacific Palisades. Billed as Southern California's largest one-day recovery and rebuilding resource event, the Expo will feature hundreds of exhibitors and experts offering information on rebuilding, home hardening, insurance, financing, utilities, construction, and recovery resources.
Attendees can connect with contractors, architects, engineers, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies while exploring educational panel discussions on successful rebuilding projects, innovative recovery solutions, and community support organizations. The family-friendly event will also include live entertainment, children's activities, food trucks, and coffee vendors. Whether rebuilding a home, restoring a business, or seeking recovery resources, community members are encouraged to attend this free event and connect with those helping shape the future of Pacific Palisades.

Knitting | Monday and Friday
Join Malibu’s Community Services Department and Sheila Rosenthal for a knitting workshop that takes place on Mondays and Fridays from 9 to noon. This program is a welcoming gathering space for fiber artists that fosters community through open stitch. Make a scarf, hat, blanket, or homemade gift. No experience necessary. Total Body Workout | Tuesdays
A comprehensive low-impact strengthening class targeting all the major muscles of the upper and lower body with special attention to form, stabilization, core strength, and balance. Please bring your own hand weights and yoga mats. Instructed by Jackline Daneshrad. The classes are on Tuesdays from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. and is $5 per class. Pre-registration is recommended. Senior Choir | Tuesdays

Senior Tech Help | Tuesdays
Receive one-on-one tech help with your laptop, tablet, or cellphone. Seniors can receive assistance using social media, Google Drive, Skype, Microsoft Word, email, and more. RSVP required. Instructed by Community Services Department staff. Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Malibu Senior Center.
Monthly Virtual Support Group | Wednesdays
Parents, caregivers, family members, self-advocates, and young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities are invited to participate in Empowering a Community of Support, Growth, and Connection, a free monthly virtual support group held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The group provides a welcoming space to share experiences, exchange practical resources, discuss challenges, celebrate successes, and build meaningful connections with others navigating developmental and intellectual disabilities. Sessions are facilitated by clinical social worker Tara Buran and educational therapist Dr. Kellye McKinna, who bring extensive professional and personal experience supporting individuals and families.
