UPDATE 10:51 a.m. — According to the MRCA, forward progress on the #JasperFire has been stopped. Fire crews will now continue inspecting the area for hot spots.
The fire was reported around 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Las Virgenes Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monica Mountains. The area remains closed to traffic as firefighting resources continue suppression efforts.

UPDATE 10:30 A.M. — Malibu Canyon Road has now been closed in both directions as firefighters continue battling the #JasperFire near Malibu Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway. No evacuations or structures are currently threatened. Officials are urging residents and motorists to avoid the area and monitor emergency alerts for updates.
UPDATE 10:00 A.M. —Fire crews responded Wednesday morning to a brush fire near Malibu Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway in unincorporated Los Angeles County, according to city officials.
The fire, identified as the #JasperFire, was reported around 9:30 a.m. on today. As of 10 a.m., firefighters remained on scene working to contain the blaze.
Officials said no evacuations have been ordered and no structures are currently threatened. Winds estimated at 15 to 20 mph were pushing the fire north, away from Malibu residential areas.
Malibu Canyon Road remained open to traffic in both directions as of now, though motorists were advised to avoid the area as emergency crews continued firefighting operations.
The City of Malibu’s Fire Safety Liaisons were on scene coordinating with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and providing updates to city officials.
