Other major notes from yesterday’s City Council meeting …
The public hearing and vote on Malibu’s controversy will short-term rental ordinance … which would affect B and Bs … has been pushed back.
Wednesday, September 26 at 5 PM is the new time and date.
City Council has canceled its really September meeting … for unexplained reasons.
The short term rental ordnance is extremely controversial … with some Malibu residents blaming vacation rentals for ruining their lives … and others saying that it is safe their homes.

The city remains in escrow in the purchase of the 42 1/2 million dollars worth of commercial land from the Jerrold Perenchio trust
The city’s bond sale for land acquisition was last week … very successful … according to city manager Reva Feldman.
Last week the city offered 23.6 million dollars in what are essentially municipal bonds the the finance the deal To investors.
The brokers took in 66 million dollars worth of orders.
At the end of the day city was able to save 2 million dollars in interest charges over 30 years … as a result of the cities sterling Credit rating … according to city manager Reva Feldman.

Twice a month hot meals for the homeless will resume … on the second and fourth Mondays of every month.
Social workers will be on hand.
Malibu’s churches and synagogue .… a private group and some private citizens Resume sharing meals with those who have very little.
This will be at the Malibu Civic Center … around the corner from the public library at what used to be the cities court house.
It’s not the old courthouse … as City Hall keeps calling it … the old courthouse is over at Los Flores beach.
The city plans to have a robust program for people living on the beaches are in the canyons.
Social workers and caseworkers from the people concern … the cities contracted homeless outreach team … will be on hand.
The homeless persons dinners will be be Second and fourth Mondays of every month at the Malibu Civic Center.

October 5th at 11 a-m …. new sewer plant Will be dedicated at the Malibu Civic Center.
It’s the largest ever capital project for the city of Malibu … 60 million dollars … it seems to be functioning … perfectly.

And the Malibu city council voted 5 to nothing … to ban motorized scooters in the city limits.
Bird and Lime … have shown no inclination to dump scooters here … but they have been dropped off as far west as Topanga Canyon and some of the stragglers have showed up in downtown Malibu.

In news from up the coast … the Ventura County fire department is buying two used helicopters from the Washington State National Guard.
The Black Hawk helicopters will be modified into firefighting capable Firehawks … according oto the Ventura County Star.
$1.7 million per helicopter, says the fire chief.
Choppers from the Ventura and L-A county fire departments frequently respond to the Malibu area … which lies in both counties.
The new Black Hawks are in Colorado … undergoing extensive modifications … such as the installation of 1,000-gallon drop tank along with search and rescue equipment
Ventura County currently flies five aircraft, all of which are from the Vietnam War era.
Parts are getting hard to find.
The Firehawks also will be able to carry 1,000 gallons of water, for possible wildfire drops.
The Ventura choppers currently in service can carry 350 gallons.
Those yellow choppers are frequent sites … here in Malibu.
