Shari Lynn Sousa was killed Dec. 30 while traveling in an automobile with Tom Robbins on Cold Canyon Road. She was 40. The two were headed toward a favorite place in the Santa Monica Mountains to watch the stars.

Born in Santa Barbara on Dec. 26, 1966, Sousa and her family moved to the Los Angeles area before her second birthday. She gave birth to Valerie Lynne on Oct. 9, 1990. In 1997, Sousa returned to live in the Calabasas area to be near family and her many friends.

Sousa’s mother, Kathy Wellman, and Robbins’ mother, Laura, were partners in a Malibu business for nearly 30 years. For the past nine years, Sousa worked in Malibu at the Malibu Colony Co. and Room at the Beach.
