Renowned jazz pianist Lisa Hilton celebrated Jazz Appreciation Month with a private concert for children with Junior Blind of America. Nearly 200 people listened to Hilton discuss jazz history and perform songs from her recent album, which debuted last week. The Junior Blind of America educates and empowers children who are visually impaired, blind or multi-disabled. For some of the children, Hilton’s performance was their first exposure to live music.
As part of Jazz Appreciation Month, students made tambourines out of paper plates, learned about the history of jazz and painted their own silhouettes while listening to jazz.
