Ellen Edeburn and Irene Gonzalez-Castillo were appointed as the new directors of Curriculum and Instruction for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District at the district’s Board of Education meeting Aug. 28.

Prior to coming to the school district, Edeburn served as the principal of Castaic Middle School for five years. She also served as an assistant principal and taught pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and high school students.

Gonzalez-Castillo has been serving as principal of McKinley Elementary School for the past eight years. Before that, she worked as an assistant principal and taught pre-kindergarten through first grade and special education in the SMMUSD, as well as child development at Santa Monica College.

“I would like to welcome Dr. Edeburn to SMMUSD and congratulate Ms. Gonzalez-Castillo on her new position for 2013-14,” district superintendent Sandra Lyon said.
