Active shooter drill

On Thursday, August 3, Pepperdine University, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and other joint agencies hosted the 14th Annual Active Shooter Drill.

The Active Shooter Rapid Response Drill focuses on prevention, intervention, rescue, and family reunification. This training simulated an active shooter on campus in student dorms. Local deputies incorporated their training to find and neutralize the shooter. After, officers used basic training to save the lives of the victims of the shooting in partnership with Los Angeles County Fire Department. Medical aircraft was used to simulate the rescue and transport of the victims.

The LASD’s simulated active shooter drill incorporated many other local deputies and departments to increase training and coordination. Drills like these allow deputies to practice neutralizing the threat and creating a faster medical response in case an emergency like this does occur.
