Let’s give a big shout out to the longstanding efforts of Vital Zuman Organic Farm and home to Malibu Grange #860. Operator Alan Cunningham has withstood the test of tough times, diligently forging ahead with his strengths in seasonal wild and domestic greens and specialty fruit trees. The legendary mulberry varieties and fig trees are generational.
In addition, the farm is the resource for Malibu’s youth in sustainable agriculture. Cunningham hosts field trips and classes for all ages throughout the year, and has worked tirelessly to ensure farm integrity and education. But, like all things worth it, community support is needed to bring it full-circle.
I appeal to the residents of Malibu and abroad to rally around and fuel the fire of existence for this true city gem. Stop by and see what’s for dinner tonight.
