A trial balloon … or a lead balloon?
Claims of a crackdown on homeless feeding at Zuma Beach get some pushback.
Meanwhile … substantial progress is reported on getting Malibu people off the streets.
Neighborhood character … McMansions … on the agenda this afternoon at 4:30.
And flying electric cars … operated by Uber … are planned for 2020 in Santa Monica.
Really.
This is Malibu’s only local daily news.
It’s the (((( final ))) edition of the ((( Monday ))) news … from Radio Malibu …. 97 point 5 K B U.
Good morning Malibu Selfridge Drive.

Was it a trial balloon ???
Or a big misunderstanding???
Another source has come forward … a person who was in that meeting last week.
The closed door session in the city manager’s office resulted in church volunteers … they say … getting a message from the mayor to stop feeding the homeless.
The source also says that the mayor did not ask Malibu Methodist volunteers to stop feeding hungry people at the church on Wednesday nights.
There’s a city council meeting tonight … and coordinating the various volunteer efforts for the homeless was set as an agenda item weeks ago.
——
And for tonight’s meeting … The People Concern and the Malibu Task Force on Homelessness have released their annual report.
The homeless Outreach Team has completed its first year in Malibu … with a total of 24
homeless men and women moved off of the streets.
Eleven of these individuals successfully moved into permanent housing, while 13 individuals
accepted interim housing.
Jay Scott … the chairman of the Task Force … says … and we quote:|
“These excellent results are great news for the community,”
“With newly-expanded support services now up to full speed, we look forward to The People Concern’s finding even more homeless people housing this coming year.”
Another 10 homeless people in Malibu now have housing vouchers in their possession from the Outreach team.
And 12 additional program participants have been approved for upcoming vouchers.
The dedicated Malibu Outreach Team is made up of Alexander Gittinger and Alexandra
Michel … sometimes referred to locally as “the Alexes”.
They have made contact with 184 homeless individuals on Malibu streets, beaches, shopping areas, and public spaces,.
The Task Force says of those 184 people … 68 enrolled in ongoing services, with housing and goal plans now in place,
The Malibu Outreach Team — along with its counterpart in Pacific Palisades — is now being aided by an expanded group of professionals, thanks to private funding secured by The People
Concern and Venice Family Clinic.

Tonight’s city council meeting will start two hours early … and probably last late into the night.
At 4:30 this afternoon … not the early start … the city council will meet with its Plannign Commission to delve into neighborhood character.
About half of the houses being approved in Malibu these days are maxed out …to the most possible square footage allowed by city codes.
McManisions … … people are building houses as big as possibly allowable…. even if they’re bigger than others in a neighborhood.
In some neighborhoods … McMansions creates eyesores that actually diminish property values … and obstruct views … say some.
Malibu City Hall is required to consider neighborhood character … in addition to the meximum square footage allowed by codes.
But until the last election … that wasn’t happening.
Planning Commissioners are now turning down otherwise-legal houses … because they’re way too big.
The city council and planning commission are going to try to nail down the definition of neighborhood character … at a special joint meeting today at 4:30.
Then at 6:30 … parking meters … a new city theater … homeless services … and undergrounding power lines in the city … also on the agenda.
Also expect an update on the school district divorce talks.
——
Speaking of power lines …. you may have heard advance warning about power pole work … that was to close Malibu Canyon Road next weekend.
That project has been delayed – there will be no traffic restrictions next Sunday on Malibu Canyon Road after all.
But … the overnight lane closures and flaggers are still out there … as the Edison Company and cellphone companies replace power poles in the canyon.

Uber has announced plans to fly a new breed of electric aircraft out of Santa Monica by 20-20.
Uber officials announced last week it has hired a developer, Sandstone Properties, to build skyports at Los Angeles International Airport … Santa Monica and Sherman Oaks.
Also downtown L-A … 20 spots altogether.
Malibu is not mentioned.
The plan needs approval from the F-A-A and NASA.
Not to mention the City of Santa Monica … which is keen to shut down Santa Monica Airport.
The Coastal Commission …. the city and the F A A currently prohibit landing helicopters in Malibu …
