This school year, Malibu’s middle school honors choir and high school chorale were chosen to perform at the 2019 Choirs of America Festival, which will take place in April 2019 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

According to an online fundraising page established to help subsidize the trip, the students will have the opportunity to sing under the direction of Choirs of America master conductor Dr. Eugene Rogers. Additionally, the Malibu choirs will be hosting “Cabaret for Carnegie” on Oct. 19. The show will include dinner, a silent auction and various performances throughout the night.

“Choir director Krysta Sorensen wants each student to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, regardless of means,” Kathryn Alice, representing the MHS Arts Angels, said in an email to The Malibu Times.

Tickets for “Cabaret for Carnegie” cost $30 for adults and $10 for students. The event will be held at the Malibu High auditorium, located at 30215 Morning View Drive.

Those who cannot attend are encouraged to donate via the GoFundMe page (gofundme.com/mhs-choir-carnegie-scholarships), which has a goal of raising $20,000 for scholarships.
