Malibu’s Search and Rescue team made a holiday rescue on Thanksgiving, responding to a call of a missing hiker and dog on Malibu’s Backbone Trail.
The female hiker and her dog were located uninjured by the SAR team just after sunset on Thursday.
“The hiker began her hike from the Newton Canyon entrance off of Kanan Dume Road in Malibu and hiked for approximately four hours until she hit darkness and reached a location where she could not extricate [herself],” according to the SAR team.
SAR was able to locate the hiker based on an electronic signal from her cell phone.
This was the second Thanksgiving Day rescue SAR has made in the last 10 years, according to the team. The rescue was a fairly short operation, and SAR made it “just in time to be back with their families for Thanksgiving dinner.”Â
