Surf legends and iconic artists have come together with nonprofit One Recovery to present “The Art of Surf” exhibit, through July 14, at One Recovery Pop-Up Gallery in Santa Monica.
The exhibit will feature surfing-related works by several artists, including Roy Gonzalez, Rick Griffin, John Severson, Chloe Trujillo and John Van Hamersveld — who also painted works for the City of Malibu’s 25th anniversary “Art of the Board” exhibit.
Three iconic surfboards are also featured at the event — Patrick Swayze’s board from the movie “Point Break,” an extremely rare surfboard painted by artist Rick Griffin and the board from the rescue attempt that took Eddie Aikau’s life in 1978.
A Q&A featuring the cast of “Point Break” and “Point Break Live” will take place at the exhibit on Friday, July 8, at 7 p.m There will be an Art of Surf Party with several of the exhibit’s featured artists on Saturday, July 9, at 7 p.m.
One Recovery was founded in 2015 by Lynne Pedersen to provide communities with support groups and arts-infused events for teens and families. The nonprofit’s mission is to provide support for struggling youth without insisting they provide a diagnosis.
“The Art of Surf” is located at 1431 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, and all events are free with RSVP. For more information and to RSVP, visit 1recovery.com.
