The filing of charges against a reclusive drifter in Malibu Canyon may have closed one door. But major questions are still out there: did agencies screw up in putting the shooting streak together? The City of Malibu is says – the roadblocks from the fire were at the discretion of the sheriff, and they were powerless to stop them. The California Coastal Conservancy wants to increase the amount of overnight lodgings in Malibu … and that means more overnight rentals.

Pacific Coast Highway has reopened between Oxnard and Malibu.
Traffic movement was restored at about 7:45 last night.
And with L A Schools back in session … you can expect heavy rush hour traffic this morning.
Kanan Dume Road has reopened … after a one car rollover blocked part of the road between tunnels 2 and 3.
No one was injured in the crash … which happened where both uphill and downhill traffic is temporarily sharing the roadway in Tunnel 3.
A hay truck fell over on Mulholland Highway just east of Las Virgenes Road.
A little excitement there … but no major traffic issues.

Malibu High School was pupil free yesterday.
Principal Chellie Nye says the teachers were learning about digital citizenship.
Students at the school will be assigned their own Chromebook computer to use in classes.
Yesterday … teachers learned how to enrich their instruction and engage learners through the use of technology.
Teachers students and parents have already begun using software from Google … called Google Classroom … for lessons and homework.
Chromebook computers are made by Google … Nye says she is excited by this advance.
Malibu High has juggled its calendar to adjust for the three weeks of class time lost to the Woolsey Fire.
The principal says the end of the semester has been moved to February 1.

Gas power leaf blowers are illegal in Malibu … and because of the fire … electric blowers are also banned in the fire area … west of Malibu Canyon Road.
The supervisors approved a motion by Malibu-area Supervisor Sheila Kuehl … to temporarily prohibit the use of leaf blowers within the impacted burn area caused by the Woolsey Fire, in order to minimize further health impacts to fire victims and the general public.
The board instructed instruct the Public Health Officer, in consultation with other appropriate
County Departments, to determine when conditions warrant a removal of
this temporary prohibition and report back to the Board.

Progressives have formed a slate to represent Malibu and the rest of the westside on the state Democratic Committee,
And with California dominate so thoroughly by democrats … the makeup of the state party committee is becoming more and more important.
The Santa Monica Daily Press reports that 14 local progressives are running as a slate to represent the Westside as delegates to the California Democratic Party.
10 of the progressive are from Santa Monica … none from Malibu.
They want to push the Democratic party in a more progressive direction and ensure it resists federal policies from President Donald Trump’s administration … according to one of the candidates… Caroline Torosis.
She tells the Santa Monica Daily Press they want to push for the policies Santa Monica is known for, such as rent control and action on climate change, at the state level.
The local party meeting and election is next Sunday … from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. … at the Santa Monica College Humanities Building … at 17th Street and Pico Boulevard … in Santa Monica.

The National Weather Service says breakers of 6 to 12 feet will be possible at exposed west-facing beaches Wednesday morning and Thursday evening.
There could be local max sets to 16 feet around Ventura Harbor.
Coastal flooding is possible with this surf event, especially during times of high tide.
The high tide around 5 feet is expected between 10 and 1030 am Wednesday, followed by another high tide slightly lower near 11 AM Thursday.
