For the past three weeks, a documentary detailing the effort to restore the natural habitat to the Civic Center and more importantly the Malibu Bay Company properties to remedy the pollution generated from this area has been showing on channel 15, Charter Cable’s Community Access station, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. I understand that it will show for two more weeks at these same times.

It shows that on Sept. 10, 2001, state officials from the Malibu Lagoon Task Force presented their recommendations, based on a $250,000 UCLA study, to the City Council. On the City Council were Jeff Jennings, Sharon Barovsky, Ken Kearsley, Joan House and Tom Hasse.

It shows that they ignored the recommendations. What it doesn’t show is that this city council refused to agendize the presentation of the recommendation for six months because it conflicted with promoting the Malibu Bay Company Development Agreement.

The recommendations are based on a two-year study and are the best way to go about cleaning up the pollution at the Lagoon and Surfrider Beach. I hope everyone takes the time, a half an hour, to watch this very informative show.
