As a long time Santa Monica College faculty member and Malibu resident, I urge you to cast your ballot for Andrew Walzer for SMC trustee. Walzer is running on a slate with three other qualified candidates: Finkel, Jaffe, and Greenstein. (The latter is running for reelection.) These four candidates have received the enthusiastic endorsement of The SMC Faculty Association and the Santa Monica Malibu Classroom Teachers’ Association.
It was disheartening to learn that two members of our Malibu City Council endorsed another candidate for trustee without ever consulting the students, faculty, or staff at SMC.
Walzer stands for restoration of the vocational education programs that were so irresponsibly cut on Tom Donner’s watch. Walzer stands for bringing the community back to Community College. Walzer will ensure that the college lives up to its mission, serving transfer, community enrichment and vocational functions with equal commitment. He will work collaboratively with the Malibu community to establish “an open and inclusive decision-making process on all development projects,” including the proposed SMC Malibu Satellite Campus.
Don’t be fooled. Donner received some local endorsements as political payback for his involvement with the Measure S Campaign. Don’t vote for Donner. Instead, make the “educated choice” and vote for the educators’ choice. Waltz to the polls for Walzer this coming Tuesday.
