The 12th Malibu City Council was adjourned for the final time last night, with the swearing in of Lou La Monte and Laura Rosenthal onto the 13th council, which convened for the first time following the oaths of office.
The 13th council will sit for two years, until the next council elections in 2016.
The oaths, which were conferred by La Monte’s son Christian and Rosenthal’s son Joe, respectively, kicked off the incumbents’ four-year terms on council, after they won re-election on April 8.
Both La Monte and Rosenthal took the opportunity to praise Malibu and its residents, as well as outline plans and goals for their next four years in office.
“We are not only our beautiful beaches and our wonderful mountains,” said Rosenthal, “we are an amazing community of artists, of readers, of entrepreneurs and hard hard workers.”
Following the short council meeting, there was a small reception at City Hall for the newly sworn in members.
The next council meeting is a budget workshop scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 6 p.m.
