Donald Sterling, the LA Clippers owner and Malibu resident embroiled in controversy, spoke publicly for the first time this week since recordings surfaced of him allegedly making racist remarks.

He sat down Monday on CNN in an interview with Anderson Cooper in which the former owner apologized repeatedly and denied accusations of being a racist.

Despite his apologies, Sterling caused further controversy in the interview when he was asked about Magic Johnson. Sterling lashed out against the Hall of Famer, saying Johnson hasn’t done anything to help others.

“I think he should be ashamed of himself. I think he should go into the background. But what does he do for the black people? He doesn’t do anything,” Sterling said.

Johnson responded Tuesday.

“It’s sad. We just got to pray for him,” Johnson said.

Two weeks ago, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million after he allegedly made racial remarks in an audio recording, telling his girlfriend to not bring black people to NBA games.

He owns several properties in Malibu, including Sterling Farms and a residence on Malibu Road.
