Over the past weekend, Pepperdine took two out of three from WCC-rival San Diego, which propelled the Waves into the Baseball America national rankings at No. 23.
For Pepperdine, this marks the first time all season they have been recognized by Baseball America. Collegiate Baseball has the Waves ranked at No. 24 while the NCBWA Top 30 puts them at No. 29.
Since 2009, Pepperdine hasn’t reached higher in the Baseball America rankings and with one week remaining in the season, the Waves are 34-14 overall and 17-7 in conference play.
Currently sitting atop the WCC, Pepperdine has recorded wins against three teams ranked in the Baseball America rankings (Cal Poly, Houston and UC Irvine).
In order to clinch the conference and win the WCC, the Waves have to either win two out of three over the weekend against Gonzaga or one win and a LMU loss.
