The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) will be accepting comments from the public on the draft Removal Action Work Plan (RAW) for the proposed cleanup of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) contaminated surface soils located at Malibu High School’s Building G Area.

According to a public notice, “DTSC has prepared this draft RAW in accordance with the California Health and Safety Code 25355.5(a)(1)(C), which gives DTSC the authority to conduct and oversee the investigation and/or remediation of any hazardous substance to protect human health and the environment.”

Proposed in the plan is the removal of 20 cubic yards of soil from a 1.5-foot thick surface layer, measuring approximately 45 feet long by 7 feet wide. The removal will take place in a planter area, adjacent to a concrete walkway, near Building G.

The draft RAW will be available for review at Malibu City Hall, Malibu High School Library and DTSC Regional Records Office. Comments on the plan will be accepted from Nov. 7 through Dec. 10. For questions, contact Project Manager Maria Gillette at 714.484.5377.
