Ukulele Player Visits MHS for Performance

Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro played at a Malibu High School assembly. He performed at the school as part of a newly added musical component of Malibu Middle School’s Exploratory classes. The musical component focuses on teaching students how to read music, understand the notes of the piano, basic hand drum, ukulele and a complete GarageBand project.

Shimabukuro spent 45 minutes with the students before playing a show at Pepperdine University. MHS student performances of the afternoon included Theo Detweiler performing Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and Jonathan Tarbox and Patricia Strutz performing a duet from chords they learned in class. Shimabukuro ended his visit with a performances of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
