The accidents caused at the terminus of the intersection of Kanan Road and PCH from the vehicles with failed brakes can easily be prevented. Post a sign at the beginning of the incline: “Steep Incline – Use Low Gears.” This should be posted in Spanish, as well, as several victims have been Latino.
I have belonged to the Malibu Gym for ten years, located at the intersection, and have experienced too many of these tragedies. Just stand at the intersection on busy traffic days and smell the toxic fumes of brakes ‘cooking’ from cars whose drivers ride their brakes down the mountain.
I’ve mentioned this several times to law enforcement officers over the years, but nothing has been done. Perhaps this letter will get noticed.
