Juan Cabrillo Elementary School hosted an Earth Day celebration with a lesson about art and environmental awareness by the school’s art specialist, Nicole Fisher. The project was designed for students in kindergarten through fifth-grade.
The celebration began with the installation of a mural designed by two fifth-grade students. Students then created an art assembly piece with collaged, repurposed plastic tubes donated by Trader Joe’s on PVC pipe resembling horsetail reeds. The project goes along with lessons students have been learning about landfills, plastic, the problems created by waste and how we all must be a part of the solution.Â
