Two of Malibu’s elementary schools, Point Dume Marine Science School and Webster Elementary School, have been named amongst the 424 public elementary schools receiving the 2014 California Distinguished School honor.
The program, which named a total of four schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District as Distinguished Schools this year, recognizes schools that, according to the state, “have made progress in narrowing the academic achievement gap.”
Principals from both schools made statements in appreciation of the honor, which was bestowed by the California Department of Education.
“We are thrilled to be recognized again as a California Distinguished School,” said Point Dume Principal Rebecca Johnson. “I want to thank the students, staff and parents. It is due to their continued dedication and extraordinary effort that this acknowledgement of PDMSS was made possible.”
“Webster Elementary School is honored to be considered a California Distinguished School for a second time,” said Webster Principal, Dr. Susan Samarge-Powell. “The students, staff and parent community all contribute to the successes found at Webster – it is a wonderful environment in which to learn.”
