Dara Torres

The Malibu Library and City of Malibu will host five-time Olympian Dara Torres on March 16 as part of the 2016 Malibu Library Speaker Series.

Torres is the only swimmer who has represented the United States in five Olympic Games and the oldest swimmer, at age 41, to earn a spot on Team USA. She has earned 12 Olympic medals in a career that spanned three decades. Torres first competed in the 1984 Olympics and took silver in the 50-meter freestyle at her last Olympics competition, in 2008, missing gold by 1/100th of a second.

According to the City of Malibu website, Torres will speak on the theme “Age is Just a Number,” which is also the title of her memoir, published in 2009. Her second book, “Gold Medal Fitness: A Revolutionary 5-Week Program,” was a New York Times bestseller.

RSVPs are required for the free event, and can be made by emailing mstallings@library.lacounty.gov or submitting a form online here: colapublib.org/libs/malibu/events.php.
