Skydog Ranch Malibu opened its gates for folks to meet rescue horses and learn what the sanctuary is about over the weekend. The founder, Clare Staples-Read, planned the event for Saturday afternoon, but due to the outpour of interest from the Malibu community and greater LA, she extended the event through the weekend.
Skydog Ranch is a nonprofit, wild horse rescue, a “Sanctuary for horses that have wound up in kill pens, at auctions, or being neglected, starved or abused,” according to its website.
The festivities included family-fun activities, barbecue and a tour of the ranch.
Skydog Ranch is also home to rescue donkeys, peacocks, emu, turtles, dogs and more.
“We at Skydog Ranch are so deeply moved by the support and interest of the Malibu community and beyond. We know we have only begun to scratch the surface of wild mustang rescue and equine therapy that we provide,” Staples-Read shared. “That said, as heartbreaking as it is, we cannot rescue more horses without donations.”
