Vote to restore programs

My family of 5 (and I) recently moved to Malibu in large part due to the fact that after visiting two of the local public schools we were tremendously excited by the fantastic schools in this area. The low student-teacher ratio, the dedication to the arts and the abundant resources – libraries, music, after school programs etc.- greatly influenced our decision to move to Malibu. We have some of the best schools in the state, if not the country.

I am writing now to say I am very concerned about the recent budget cuts enacted by Gov. Davis and the toll they will take on our extraordinarily high quality schools. Not only will library, art, music and physical education programs be cut, but perhaps worst of all, the loss of teachers will insure that the student- teacher ratio will increase. That means less attention and instruction for those who need it most, our children.

Measure S is a $225 a year parcel tax that will restore approximately half of the budget back to the schools. All of the money will go directly to our schools and directly benefit our children. It will not solve all the problems of the cuts, but it will alleviate crowded classrooms, keep all our teachers and help maintain academic excellence. Good schools keep our property values high and build our future. Help keep our schools strong. Please vote yes (in June) on Measure S.
