Malibu local and longtime favorite Dick Van Dyke discussed his film career, television career and personal challenges in an interview with Huffington Post published Friday.
He calls his time on “The Dick Van Dyke Show” the best years of his creative career.
Van Dyke, who was married to his first wife for 36 years, spent 33 years with his second partner and married makeup artist Arlene Van Dyke last year, reveals, “I cannot live alone. I have to have somebody to share [life] with.”
The question-and-answer style post also delves into the dark times Van Dyke faced when he first moved to Malibu. In 1948 his wife miscarried and the pair was evicted from their rental—on the same day.
Van Dyke is scheduled to accept a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild on Jan. 27.
