Dr. Lisa Newell, a veterinarian at the Malibu Coast Animal Hospital, was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from her alma mater, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUVSM). The award, presented for the first-time in the school’s history, was given to two other alumni.

Newell, a 1997 graduate, is being recognized for her work on the California Veterinary Medical Board (former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her to the position in 2005), her work with the California Wildlife Center as a sitting member of the board of directors and for her involvement in multiple charities.

In an email to The Malibu Times, Paige Jepson, a spokesperson for the school, said, “This award recognizes Dr. Newell for her extraordinary success in the areas of professional achievement, community involvement, advancement of RUSVM’s mission and encouraging and inspiring future leaders.”

The awards ceremony was held during RUVSM’s commencement ceremony in St. Kitts, located in the West Indies.
