Caltrans will be continuing to repair damaged k-rails in east Malibu on Monday, shutting down one eastbound lane of Pacific Coast Highway between Big Rock Drive and Las Tunas Beach.
The closure is scheduled to last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to Caltrans.
“The k-rails [concrete barriers] along the highway have to be repositioned to prevent them from falling down the slope,” a Caltrans spokesperson wrote. “Large waves caused by hurricanes in Mexico have caused severe erosion to slopes along this section of highway.”
Commuters should also expect delays going into Santa Monica, as a project to renovate Moomat Ahiko Way gets under way on Monday morning.
The road, which connects Pacific Coast Highway to Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, will undergo an annual paving and rehabilitation project. Work will completely shut down the road starting Monday, Sept. 15, through Monday, Oct. 6.
Detours have been scheduled and access to PCH will still be available through the 10 Freeway and also the California Incline, but drivers should anticipate delays in both directions. Another ongoing sewer construction project has been clogging up the area for months, and the Moomat Ahiko project will likely add to the congestion.
